What You Need to Know About Queensland’s Electric Vehicle Subsidy Program

EV REBATES

The Queensland Government just launched a new 10-year zero-emission policy for electric vehicles. EVs are beginning to receive the required backing and foundations for widespread consumer adoption, thanks to a $10 million co-funded electric superhighway.

This appears to be promising as Australia transitions to a greener, more sustainable future, with petrol costs at an all-time high of $2.20, but how much of an incentive is available and what are the requirements?

How Will It Work?

The Queensland government promised a $3000 upfront subsidy for every electric car purchased for less than $58,000 on or after March 16, 2022.

There will also be long-term benefits, such as lower car registration and fee payments. The specifics of which will be revealed soon.

Because the $58,000 price ceiling is lower than in other states, the Telsa Model 3 ($63,900) will not be eligible. However, today’s electric automobiles, such as….

Are all eligible under the $58,000 cap. Other states have already implemented a EV subsidy program with New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia all offering $3000 grants for vehicles under $68,000.

Queensland Zero Emission's Vehicle Target

This funding is part of a much larger plan that includes a 10-year plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 through the usage of renewables.

The main goals including.

  • 50% of new car sales to be zero emission by 2030 and moving to 100% in 2036
  • 100% of the government vehicles to be zero emission by 2026
  • Each new Translink bus added to the fleet to be zero emission from 2025

A $10 million fund will also be established to develop a network of public charging stations (electric superhighway). Phase 3 will commence with the installation of 18 additional super fast charging stations in regional and rural locations. This brings the total number of charging stations along the electric superhighway to 49.

Making electric vehicles more accessible for long-distance travel in Queensland. The future is electric is a fantastic resource in which the government lists 16 cost-effective initiatives that will be implemented to encourage consumer acceptance.
